What does a ranking like this tell you about a potential language partner?<\/strong><\/p>\n The language industry has no shortage of credentials: rankings, ISO certifications, association memberships, awards, and sector-specific standards. They can all tell you something about an LSP. The key is knowing what each one shows and how much weight to give it.<\/p>\n Some reflect market presence. Others assess processes, security, or specific workflows. And some recognize achievement without involving a formal audit at all.<\/p>\n Understanding those differences helps procurement, localization, legal, and regulatory teams make better-informed decisions.<\/p>\n Independent industry rankings give you a useful picture of a provider’s place in the market: its size and revenue, geographic position, growth, and development within the language-services sector.<\/p>\n Three research firms carry particular weight here:<\/p>\n Together, our two CSA Research positions reflect a strong regional presence and an established place in the global language-services market.<\/p>\n For clients, that context is useful. Scale, continuity, and the capacity to support long-term multilingual programs all matter when you\u2019re assessing a language partner. But they are only part of the picture. CSA Research provides a measure of market position; it does not certify translation quality.<\/strong><\/p>\n Market position can only tell you so much, especially if you work in regulated and high-stakes industries. If you’re entrusting an LSP with an unpublished patent, clinical documentation, a contract, or highly technical product information, you also need evidence of how that content will be handled.<\/p>\n That\u2019s where standards and certifications come in.<\/p>\n Standards set requirements for specific processes or management systems, and independent certification bodies check whether a provider meets them. What ISO 17100 does provide is evidence of a defined, repeatable professional workflow<\/strong>, so quality isn\u2019t left to informal practices or individual ways of working.<\/p>\n Machine translation can make sense for certain content and workflows. But using it doesn’t remove the need for professional linguistic judgment.<\/p>\n ISO 18587 sets requirements for the full human post-editing of machine translation output, including the competencies of the post-editors doing the work. For clients, that means machine-generated content isn’t simply accepted as delivered: a qualified professional is responsible for reviewing and correcting the output before it is finalized.<\/strong><\/p>\n Linguistic quality is only one dimension of risk. Language providers may receive some of an organization’s most sensitive information:<\/p>\n ISO\/IEC 27001 sets the requirements for an information security management system: how an organization identifies risks to the information it holds and puts controls in place to manage them<\/strong>. It needs to understand the environment in which that content will be used.<\/p>\n For medical device content, ISO 13485<\/strong> is particularly relevant.
